Govt reappoints Fazle Kabir as Bangladesh Bank governor

Fazle Kabir has been reappointed as the governor of Bangladesh Bank (BB) for two more years.
The Financial Institutions Division of the Ministry of Finance confirmed the reappointment in a letter today.
Fazle Kabir has been appointed as the governor of the Bangladesh Bank until he turns 67 or till July 3, 2022, as per the Bangladesh Bank (Amendment) Bill, 2020, the letter read.
The order will be effective immediately, it added.
Fazle Kabir was appointed governor of the central bank on March 15, 2016 for a four-year tenure. He joined on March 20 the same year.
Following completion of his tenure on March 20 this year, the government extended his appointment for three and half months. The extension completed on July 3.
Meanwhile, on July 9, the parliament passed the Bangladesh Bank (Amendment) Bill, 2020, raising the age limit for the central bank governor to 67 years from 65 years.
