Gillette and Razer to launch a shaving razor for gamers

Gillette and Razer have announced that their April Fools' joke is becoming a tangible product, set to be released by the end of August. The collaboration, officially named the GilletteLabs Razor Limited Edition, is essentially a rebranded version of Gillette's flagship disposable-blade razor, the Exfoliating Bar razor. The new edition will feature Razer's signature acid green colour, replacing many of the chrome elements found on the standard GilletteLabs unit, which retails for $24.99.

In a joint statement, the companies revealed that Razer's distinctive three-snake logo will be incorporated into the design. Images released with the statement show that the logo will appear on the special edition razor's packaging. Additionally, the stand for the razor will feature Razer's trademarked slogan, 'For Gamers, By Gamers.'

The collaboration was initially conceived as an April Fools' Day joke when Razer introduced a concept for a shaving mouse. The overwhelmingly positive fan response led to the development of an actual product. Daniel Ordonez, global brand franchise leader for Gillette, and Ayesha Durante, VP, global head of marketing at Razer, have both expressed that the collaboration aims to elevate the shaving and gaming experience through a focus on quality and performance.

The product will be available for purchase both online and in stores later this month, with availability varying by region. It will also make its debut at Gamescom 2023. Beyond the product itself, the companies plan to engage with the gaming community through various programs and initiatives, including branded content across multiple platforms like TikTok, Twitch, and YouTube, via the 13 streamers and content creators in the Gillette Gaming Alliance.
