Prachyanat wraps up month-long celebrations today

Prominent theatre troupe Prachyanat marked its 29th anniversary on February 21. To commemorate the occasion, the troupe organised a series of cultural events throughout the month, which concludes today with a closing ceremony at the Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy (BSA).

Prachyanat School's adaptation of 'Animal Farm' to take the stage today

The classic Orwellian allegory has been adapted and directed for stage by Jaganmoy Paul. The play will be preceded by the certificate-giving ceremony of the 47th batch starting at 6:30pm. The entry pass can be collected at the entrance of the Shilpakala Academy.

Theatre artistes to stage street play as protest at BSA

Today two theatre troupes are set to perform street plays at the Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy (BSA), advocating for the safety of theatre artistes. This protest is in response to the cancellation of the play “Nityapurana” on November 2, as well as the subsequent attack on renowned thespian Mamunur Rashid during a demonstration led by Bangladesh Group Theatre Federation (BGTF) activists.

Shilpakala Academy’s theatre performances resume today

After almost three months of closure, theatrical performances are set to resume today on a limited scale at the Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy in the capital. Bangladesh Theatre's production of "Sea Morog" will be performed at the National Theatre Hall auditorium on this inaugural day.

Prachyanat dominates Ishrat Nishat Natya Puraskar 2023, bags four awards

A nine-member jury board comprising eminent theatre personalities such as Shafi Ahmed, Kamaluddin Kabir, Haroon Ar Rashid Khan, Debaprosad Debnath, Hridi Huq, Fahmida Haq Koli, Sadhana Ahmed, Kha Ma Harun, and Nazrul Kabir were tasked to watch and evaluate 33 plays staged in 2023 for the award.

'Ishrat Nishat Natya Puraskar 2023' to honour theatre practitioners in 9 categories

Announcing the official prize-giving ceremony of “Ishrat Nishat Natya Puraskar 2023” on February 9, the committee’s executive committee chairman, Nasir Uddin Yousuff, along with chief coordinator Selina Shelley, declared the names of the nominated theatre personalities in categories of best in production, director, playwright, male actor, female actor, best light designer, set designer and music designer and costume designer.

Prachyanat School to celebrate ‘Raktakarabi’s’ centenary with new production

Under the direction of Shawkat Hossain Sajib, the school will stage the play on Monday, January 29, at 7:00pm at Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy's National Theatre Hall. Prachyanat, which is renowned for its socially and politically aware grand theatrical presentations, is going to stage the epic play as part of its biannual school productions.

Prominent theatre troupes Prachyanat, Nagorik Natya Sampradaya, Aranyak Natyadal, Swapnadal, Meghdoot, Theatre, Batighar and others have planned to bring a new and intriguing set of theatrics to the stage as well for the year 2024 as well.
