Women’s football camp with 55 players after Eid, says Tabith

Bangladesh Football Federation president Tabith Awal confirmed that a full-fledged preparation camp of women's football team with 55 players including rebel 18 players will begin after the Eid-ul-Fitr break as part of preparation for June's AFC Women's Asian Cup Qualifiers.

Tabith today met with the members of women's team which returned from Dubai earlier in the day after playing two friendly matches against United Arab Emirates, losing both matches by 3-1 goals.

"It was an informal meeting with the players who played in the UAE. I told them to keep up the good work and improve in areas where they lacked. I also asked them to maintain the attitude and fitness as professional footballers, whether they are in camp or outside of it," the BFF president told The Daily Star after the meeting today.

"We will inform them about when the camp will get underway. We have a 55-member pool and we will start training with all 55 players, 23 of whom will be selected for the next assignments," said Tabith.

In the middle of January, the game's local governing body started the training camp with 55 players but 18 seniors boycotted the camp after head coach Peter Butler joined in the latter part of January.

Those 18 players were left out of the touring party, but a resolution was reached that they might return to training after the Eid break.

The BFF president said that whether or not the team qualifies for the Asian Cup, they will get to play a lot of matches over the next two years.

"If we qualify for the final round (Asian Cup), that will be in March next year. Even if we can't qualify, then we will have the Asian Games next year. So, we have a full calendar of matches in next two years," said Tabith.
