Sean Lane quits Mohammedan over club's interference

Long-serving coach Sean Lane left Mohammedan along with assistant coach James McAloon over the club's interference into planning, recruitment and team selection, a press release from Lane's PR agency said today.
The press release read: "It has been both a great challenge and privilege to work with the club over the past 4 years but we feel the time has come to move on. We have been in ongoing discussions with the club about the culture of poor planning and ongoing interference with the management of the playing squad, in particular around recruitment and player retention.
"To move the club forward we needed to be on the same page and have more transparency with the playing squad and this simply was not the case. Despite our best efforts and numerous commitments from the club we could not see the situation changing.
"The time is right now for the club to appoint a new coaching team to continue the journey and to work within the existing constraints. We wish to thank the club and the supporters for the opportunity and wish them all the best in the remaining games."
The press release also stated that Lane went back to his native Australia while the assistant coach went to Vietnam.
Lane was a respected coach in the domestic circuit, having guided the club to decent mid-table finishes in the last three seasons despite having low-budget teams. He was known for getting the best of young players and a squad devoid of any high-profile signing.
Mohammedan are currently in sixth position in the league. They had finished sixth last season and ninth in 2018-19 season.
