Premier League resumption hinges on lockdown decision

An emergency virtual meeting of the Bangladesh Football Federation regarding resumption of Bangladesh Premier League ended without any decision today.
However, the meeting chaired by SVP Abdus Salam Murshedy, suggested that the even though there be preparations made to start the league as soon as possible once the nationwide lockdown is lifted.
The first phase of the league ended on March 7 and the second phase was supposed to resume on April 9, but the lockdown prompted the game's local governing body to defer the resumption indefinitely.
BFF had, at that time, said that the league will resume within seven days of lifting of lockdown, but the clubs are seemingly not in consensus over the issue. Some clubs want the league resumed as soon as possible while others want it deferred beyond June, with Abahani and Bashundhara Kings' AFC Cup engagement and national team's World Cup Qualifiers in mind.
Today's meeting, though, stressed on keeping things such as fixtures and grounds prepared so that once the lockdown is lifted and clubs come to a consensus, the league can be resumed in shortest possible time.
"Observing the upcoming decision on lockdown and synchronising with upcoming international events, all the clubs have opined in favour of resuming the Bangladesh Premier League in shortest possible time. With the lockdown decision forthcoming and the AFC Cup/World Cup fixtures in mind, we will send a draft fixture of the league to the clubs for their observations. We will sit for another meeting on April 21 to decide on the next steps," Murshedy told media through a video message after the meeting.
