Mohammedan’s sole focus now BPL

After being unofficially eliminated from the group stage of the ongoing Federation Cup, Mohammedan SC, the Fed Cup finalists in the last two editions, shifted their focus fully on Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) matches, including today's encounter against Rahmatganj MFS at Shaheed Dhirendranath Datta Stadium in Cumilla.

Although Mohammedan SC have been flawless in the professional football league with a perfect record in six matches, the Black and Whites fell short in the Federation Cup after losing two matches out of three, eliminating them from the competition which they won in 2023.

"The elimination from the Federation Cup will help the players to fully concentrate on the league. We hope to keep consistency in the league and give our best against Rahmatganj tomorrow [Friday]," said Mohammedan coach Alfaz Ahmed.

Mohammedan's contrasting performance in the two domestic competitions have startled many even though they emerged runners-up in all three competitions -- Independence Cup, League, and Federation Cup -- last season.

"Actually, the players have not been used to the new system of playing the league and the Federation Cup simultaneously," explained Alfaz.

"Besides, we had to play three successive matches on December 4, 7, and 10, so players were under pressure and could not maintain consistency. Also, we played better against Rahmatganj and Abahani in the Federation Cup but luck did not side with us," he added.

Mohammedan have been on the top of the BPL table with 18 points, three more than second-placed Rahmatganj MFS.
