Kings beat Abahani on penalties to clinch fourth Federation Cup title

Bashundhara Kings retained the Federation Cup title by beating Abahani 5-3 on penalties in the final of the competition at the Mymensingh District Stadium on Tuesday to clinch their fourth title.

Kings were perfect from the spot, converting all five of their penalties but Abahani's Nigerian forward Emeka Ogbugh missed his kick to give Kings the advantage after it ended 1-1 in the remaining half of extra-time.

The high-voltage clash which eventually witnessed a total of 17 yellow cards and one red card each for a Kings player and official, got underway from exactly where it was left off last Tuesday when thunderstorm and heavy shower halted proceedings at the start of the second-half of the final last week. It took more than an hour to resume the match. However, referee Saymon Hasan called off proceedings due to insufficient light after conducting 105 minutes, with the scoreline at 1-1.

This was Kings' first win over Abahani in three attempts this season after they suffered losses in the Federation Cup and the Bangladesh Premier League. It is also the season's second trophy for Kings who started the campaign by winning the Challenge Cup trophy.
