Sheffield United midfielder Hamza Choudhury hoped Bangladesh would score against Singapore in the next Asian Cup Qualifiers fixture at home on June 10, after having seen the team waste a number of scoring chances in a goalless draw against India in Shillong last night.

Hamza, who made his debut for Bangladesh last night, put on a dominant display in midfield to keep India at bay but saw the Bangladesh forwards waste chances in front of goal. Hamza, however, tried to shield his teammates.

"It's football. Everyone misses chances. You see in the English Premier League, they miss chances," Hamza told reporters on the way to the team bus following the match.

The 27-year-old midfielder, who made a number of crucial tackles and blocks to keep India's Sunil Chhatri neutralised, hoped things would be better when Bangladesh play at home.

"For sure (we could have won), especially in the first half we've had some very good chances. But that's football, we worked very hard to create these chances, the next game for sure we'll score," Hamza said.

The England-born footballer said he was keeping his trust in the process and thanked the whole team for the hard work.

"I'm so proud of the team. They worked hard for the last one month, I just came to join them for the last five days," Hamza said. "Like I keep saying this is a slow process and Insha'Allah we will be successful."
