Bangladesh out of AFC U-17 championship after 4-0 loss

Bangladesh's hopes of qualifying for the finals of AFC U-17 Asian Cup came to an end after suffering a 4-0 defeat to pre-tournament favourites Yemen in the final Group E match at Birshreshtha Shaheed Mostafa Kamal Stadium tonight.
Both Bangladesh and Yemen came into the match on the back of two successive victories but Yemen had a better goal difference and came into the match with better performances in comparison to Bangladesh.
Yemen only needed a single point to put Bangladesh behind and qualify for the 16-team finals as one of 10 group champions but they booked the final spot by thrashing Bangladesh, who had suffered a 0-2 defeat in 2018 Qualification. Yemen came into their third match after demolishing Bhutan and Singapore, Bangladesh on the other hand showed character against the favouites despite dismal performance in the first two matches against Singapore and Bhutan.
Bangladesh awarded the first goal when Chandon Roy unnecessarily fouled an opponent striker inside the box to concede a penalty. Anwar Hossain sent Bangladesh goalkeeper the wrong way to give Yemen a 24th minute lead from the spot.
Wahib Noman doubled the advantage for Yemen in the 37th minute when a poor clearance from the Bangladesh defence came his way just at the edge of the area.
Yemen took the match away from Bangladesh when Abel Abbas Qasem made it 3-0 in stoppage time of the first half after racing into the box before beating the goalkeeper at the near post.
In the second half, substitute Ameer Albrwany wrapped up the scoring in the 78th minute and Bangladesh had to be content with a second-place finish with six points which left them out of the running of the best runners-up among 10 groups.
