A battle of 2 coaches

Sheikh Jamal Dhanmondi Club will be looking to defend their title and lift it for the third time in five years as they take on last edition's beaten finalists Muktijoddha Sangsad in today's final at the Bangabandhu National Stadium.
Since the last final, when Sheikh Jamal overcame three-time champions Muktijoddha Sangsad through an 83rd minute strike from defender Nasir Chowdhury, there has been very little change in terms of personnel in the two sides. Haitian forward Sony Norde, who left for Indian club Mohun Bagan at the end of season, is perhaps the only remarkable absentee from that match. However, both teams have had changes in the dug-out as Maruful Haque came to Sheikh Jamal's helm while Abu Yusuf took charge of the All Reds. But they are eyeing the same goal: the title of the season's opening tournament.
On paper, Sheikh Jamal have a better team than their opponents. They have also won all the four games against Muktijoddha in the history of this tournament. But they have not justified their name so far as they had to struggle against Brothers Union and Sheikh Russel KC in the knock-out matches. Muktijoddha, on the other hand, have showed their worth by dispatching heavyweights Abahani and Mohammedan to reach the stage of the last battle.
Muktijoddha coach Abu Yusuf feels his side have nothing to be afraid of.
“Sheikh Jamal are no doubt a good opposition. But there are many ways to make the difference in the match and we will be making the difference through tactics. If the players can play according to our plan, we can expect a win,” said the veteran, will be looking to bring back the title to the All Reds tent after ten years.
Maruful also believes that tactics would play a key role in the match. But he admits that the implementation of the tactics depends on the ability of the players, where he keeps his players ahead of the opposition.
“Any team that plays against Sheikh Jamal play with a nothing-to-lose attitude and try to give their hundred percent. These days it is always tough for Sheikh Jamal to face any opponent. But I believe if the boys can play their own game, they will lift the title,” said Maruful, who guided the side to Bhutan's King's Cup title at the start of the season.
