Former Bangladesh opener Tamim Iqbal suffered a serious heart attack yesterday and his life was saved following a successful stent procedure at Sheikh Fazilatunnesa Mujib Memorial KPJ Specialised Hospital.

The cricketer had been prescribed rest, but after a discussion with doctors, Tamim and his family decided to move to Dhaka's Evercare Hospital today.

"It's a family decision, taken after discussion with doctors. After Iftar, they would bring him by ambulance, using police protocol. The decision has come from the highest corridor. Since there is traffic and after Iftar the roads will be free, that's why that time was chosen to make the transfer," Mohammedan vice-president Masuduzzaman told members of the media today.

During a press briefing today, the hospital's media director, Dr. Rajib, also spoke about the decision being left up to Tamim's family.

"We will be able to discharge him from here. His family will decide when and how he will be discharged. We have explained everything to them. We will honour the family's decision and cooperate accordingly," Dr Rajib said.
