Taijul strikes after Jaker’s explosive 91 sees Tigers post 286-run lead

Jaker Ali fell short of a hundred by 9 runs, holed out on 91 but his explosive knock saw Bangladesh in the driving seat as the Tigers posted 268 all out in their second innings on day four of the second Test to take a 286-run lead in Jamaica today. At lunch West Indies reached 23 for 1 as opener Mikyle Louis fell to Taijul Islam.
Jaker, who started the day on an overnight score of 29, was watchful at the start of day four but soon got into really good positions against the short stuff served by the Windies pacers to pick up the scoring rate.
Taijul Islam's vigil ended after a 50-ball 14, edging a bouncer from Alzarri Joseph in the 50th over. Mominul had suffered from an illness and did not come to bat yesterday and next over after Taijul's dismissal, Kemar Roach removed Mominul Haque for a four-ball duck. With Hasan Mahmud for company, Jaker took Alzarri on, dispatching two sixes and a four and reaching his fifty.
Hasan Mahmud had partnered Jaker for 12 deliveries before he nicked Roach to first slip which ended a valuable 27-ball 32-run stand before Taskin Ahmed fell to a inside-edge in Roach's next over.
Once number 11 Nahid Rana came to the crease, Jaker wanted to add more valuable runs and sped things up.
He would go down the track to Roach to pick up a magnificent six over long off. He was not done against Alzarri, disdainfully picking him from outside off stump and over mid-on for his fifth six of the innings to move to the 90s. When he tried to hit another big one but did not catch it properly, holed at mid-on as Bangladesh were bowled out for 268.
Earlier Bangladesh pacer Nahid Rana had bagged a maiden Test fifer on day three to bowl West Indies out for 146 in their first innings. The Tigers had reached stumps on day three at 193 for five before they added 75 more valuable runs in the first session of day four with Jaker scoring the majority of the runs in that first session.
Taijul Islam got Bangladesh the breakthrough after the exchange with the wicket of Mikyle Louis, out for six. Mehedi Miraz brought on Taijul in just the fifth over of the innings and his quicker delivery was fended off by Mikyle but popped off the boots and was taken by Shahadat Hossain at short-leg as West Indies went to lunch at 23 for 1 in 4.2 overs.
