Taijul bags his third to leave Windies four down

It was an intriguing second session's play before tea on day four in Jamaica as Bangladesh spinners came to the party after the pace riot in the first innings. Taijul Islam in particular did the damage, well-supported by Mehedi Miraz as Bangladesh produced three wickets in the second session to leave West Indies four down for 133 runs at tea.

Windies were scoring briskly before Taskin Ahmed and Nahid Rana tightened things up, steadily keeping the threat alive. Taskin finally got his reward when Keacy Carty nicked a length delivery, moving in through to Liton Das behind the stumps to depart for 14.

From then on, Miraz operated with Taijul and himself till the tea session, bowling 15 overs in tandem..

Windies captain Kraig Brathwaite was not only hanging around but scoring runs positively before spinners slowed things down slightly. It was Taijul Islam who changed the trajectory in the 25th over. Bounce and turn on offer with a slight loop to draw Brathwaite forward, the delivery took the shoulder of the bat and Mahmudul Hasan at slips took a diving catch to his right to help Taijul remove the Windies captain for 43 and break the Brathwaite-Kavem-Hodge 35-run third-wicket stand.

The last delivery of that over, Alick Athanaze gloved one while sweeping, almost caught by leg-slip as it ran away for four. Things were happening and Taijul did not need to wait long for his third in the innings. Althanaze went for an expansive drive through cover off the very first delivery of Taijul's next over but the ball turned sharply off the rough and castled the left-hander for five.

At 106 for four, Hodge used his feet commendably against the spinners to move the scoring along, remaining unbeaten on 49 off 63 deliveries. After the second session West Indies need another 154 runs, having added 110 runs in the second session. Bangladesh need six more wickets to get their first Test win in the West Indies since 2009.

Earlier in the first session, Taijul bagged Mikyle Louis as Windies went to lunch at 23 for 1.
