Dhaka fall to fifth straight loss despite Sabbir’s blistering 82

Sabbir Rahman has been out of the national team fold for a while and even in BPL, he is not a regular pick by franchises. The right-hander gave a reminder of his ability to go for big hits during an unbeaten 82 off just 33 deliveries for Dhaka Capitals against Chittagong Kings but it could not help the Dhaka franchise avoid their fifth defeat on the trot as Chittagong won the evening encounter in Sylhet today by seven wickets with three deliveries to spare.
Chittagong had a good start in chase of 178. Parvez Hossain struck 17 but the start in the Powerplay was brisk during a fifty stand, thanks to Usman Khan's contributions. Usman managed a 33-ball 55 and stitched together a 51-run stand for the third wicket with Graham Clark (39 off 32) before the Pakistan batter fell in the 12th over.
It was Shamim Hossain, who put the finisher's touch with a quickfire 14-ball 30, keeping Mustafizur Rahman at bay in the death overs. Skipper Mohammad Mithun also remained unbeaten on 33 off 22 during a 36-run stand with Shamim to see Chittagong pick up their second win this BPL.
Earlier, Dhaka did not have the best of starts when Jason Roy fell to Aliss Al Islam for one. Without regular opener Liton Das in the lineup, the wind was not particularly in Dhaka's sails at the top. Stephen Eskinazi too departed for a 14-ball 5. Shahadat Hossain Dipu would also fall for 9 off 10 deliveries, leaving Dhaka at 66 for 3.
It was opener Tanzid Tamim along with Sabbir, who revived the innings with a 63-run stand. Tanzid departed after a 48-ball 54 but Sabbir remained the star of the Dhaka innings with a blistering 82 off just 33, hitting nine sixes and three fours during the knock.
Khaled Ahmed remained the pick of the bowlers for Chittagong, picking up three wickets and conceding just 21 while bar Aliss, who conceded 25 in four overs, the rest went for plenty of runs as Dhaka managed 177 for five.
