Bangladesh's Mahmudullah Riyad was in agreement with Tamim Iqbal and Mushfiqur Rahim that the Dhaka Premier League (DPL) should be the foremost priority when cricket returns to the country. Tamim is holding talks with teammates over Instagram in order to entertain audiences under coronavirus lockdown. During an interesting chat, Riyad talked about what the Premier League means to them.

"I was talking to [Mohammad] Salauddin Sir today and he was feeling mad since he is not one to sit at home. I told him to wait for some more days and maintain patience. I think the Premier League taking place is very very important, not just for the cricketers but everyone involved. From the boys to the physios, trainers and coaches and officials its for everyone," Riyad told Tamim last night.

Tamim spoke of how majority of the cricketers will be affected negatively if the Dhaka Premier League does not take place this year. The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) had postponed the second round of the DPL on March 16 in order to stop the spread of the coronavirus. Later on March 20, all cricket in the country was postponed for an indefinite period.

"We have been playing for the last 10 to 12 years and if the Premier League does not take place, we have been blessed by The Almighty so that we can weather this out. However so many boys will be in such huge trouble if the Premier League does not take place is what needs to be realised," Tamim said.

"All I hope is that no matter when cricket begins, it begins with the Premier League," he added.

Riyad spoke about what separates the Premier League from other competitions.

"The thing is that the Premier League has an essence of its own. There is a different kind of fighting spirit and eagerness. It just has a different flavour and I don't think anything else matches in that regard," Riyad mentioned.

Tamim also put forward the notion that the national team players feel a different kind of motivation when facing each other in the Premier League.

"The way we compete with each other, that is not seen in any other league. The BPL is a different story but the Premier League intensity is very high," Tamim reiterated.

"Everyone is so hungry for runs and wickets and so the approach is totally different. It's a totally smash and grab approach," Riyad added on the topic.

During an interview with The Daily Star in March, BCB president Nazmul Hassan had said that they were mulling starting the DPL when it is safe to play cricket. He said that they would be "focusing on what the other teams in the subcontinent are doing and how they will plan going forward" and reiterated that their highest priority will be to "remain cautious and not to rush".
