Shamim’s smashing 52 thwarts Prime Bank

Shamim Hossain, called up to the national team squad yesterday, laid further credibility to the decision to include him for the Zimbabwe T20Is by guiding Prime Doleshwar to a five-wicket win over title-contenders Prime Bank in the Bangabandhu Dhaka Premier Division T20 Cricket League match at Sher-e-Bangla National team today. With Abahani also losing earlier today, the result means the title will be decided on the final match day on 26th June.
Facing the likes of Mustafizur Rahman, Rubel Hossain and Shoriful Islam, Prime Doleshwar were in trouble early on in chase of 127, slumping to 2 for 12 runs. Saif Hassan's 27-off 31 and Fazle Mahmud's 20 off 12 helped with the resistance but once they departed, Prime Bank put the pressure back on.
Shamim continued in his own brand of aggressive cricket, playing some explosive shots against national team regulars. With 35 required in four overs, he plundered sixes off Rubel, Mustafizur and then Shoriful during an unbeaten 30-ball 52, laced with four fours and three sixes as Doleshwar won by five wickets.
Earlier, having won the toss and electing to bat first, Prime Bank batsmen did not make the kind of impact that their title hopes required.
Shafiul Islam and Kamrul Islam made early breakthroughs and only Rony Talukdar's 41-ball 59 helped Prime Bank to 126 all out. Shafiul bagged four for 36 while Kamrul bagged three for 10 runs.
The win for Doelshwar meant that the final match on the last day of the league between Prime Bank and Abahani Limited is set to be the title-decider. Both team are tied on 22 points with 11 wins each and the winner will take the title.
