Shakib's World Cup bat sold for 20 lakh Taka

Bangladesh premier all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan's bat, which he used during the 2019 ICC Cricket World Cup in England, was sold for a price of 20 lakh Taka after the 33-year-old followed in the footsteps of teammate Mushfiqur Rahim to auction one of his favourite bats in order to raise fund for battling coronavirus crisis.
The online auction was arranged by a page named 'Auction 4 Action' on social media. The base price for Shakib's bat was set at 5 lakh Taka. And after a battle between a number of bidders, the bat was finally bought by Raj, a Bangladeshi currently staying in the United States, for 20 lakh Taka. The online auction came to an end at 11:15pm on Wednesday night.
The Bangladesh all-rounder had a hugely successful World Cup on a personal level, setting numerous records despite Bangladesh failing to make it out of the league stage of the tournament. Shakib scored 606 runs in eight matches at an average of 86.57 and hit five fifties and two swashbuckling tons against England and West Indies.
Shakib shared his story with the bat and also mentioned that he is still 'not out' with it.
"I have been using this bat and another one since the IPL, preparing for the upcoming World Cup. I always used these two bats to practice in the nets. Normally we use different bats for practice and for matches. But when I went to Ireland, I used this bat as I found myself comfortable with it after practising with it for a long period. I had built a rapport with this bat.
"It was however marked as second or third bat, which means it was never my first-choice bat for matchdays. I played really well in Ireland with this bat and since then I always used it for matchdays. Then also in World Cup, I played the whole tournament with it. Only in the match against England I used a different bat but that too after having smashed 120 with this one. But I could not even score a single run with the other bat and then I realized that may be this is the bat I need to score runs with. Even I played with this bat in the last match that I played for Bangladesh against Afghanistan before being suspended. I am still 'not out' with that bat I was unbeaten in my last game," Shakib shared his story during a live video show arranged by 'Auction 4 Action' on social media.
The fund raised by auctioning this bat will be added to the Shakib Al Hasan Foundation and will be used to help for battling coronavirus crisis.
