Bangladesh cricketer Sabbir Rahman allegedly directed racist slurs and threw a stone towards Sheikh Jamal Dhanmondi player Elias Sunny during the Bangabandhu Dhaka Premier Division T20 Cricket League match between Sheikh Jamal and OLD DOHS today. A complaint has been filed with Cricket Committee of Dhaka Metropolis (CCDM) over the incident.

CCDM Member secretary Ali Hossain confirmed they got a letter from Sheikh Jamal. "We have received a letter and we will also look at the match referee's report. We will investigate and take a decision," Ali informed.

Sabbir, who is a player of Legends of Rupganj, had arrived with the rest of his team for their match Partex Sporting today while Sheikh Jamal and OLD DOHS were playing in BKSP's Ground 4. According to Sunny, the game was stopped for five minutes following the unsportsmanlike behaviour from Sabbir.

Sunny said he tried to avoid interacting with Sabbir. "We were playing this morning at BKSP and I was fielding in the deep. The Rupganj bus arrived and Sabbir came down and directed racist slurs at me. I tried to avoid it and then he threw a stone at me. Then I brought the matter to the umpire and match referee's attention," Sunny told The Daily Star.

The altercation between the two apparently began during the Rupganj vs Sheikh Jamal match on June 13th at BKSP.

"In the match against Rupganj, when I went out to bat, he directed unspeakable insults at me. Our team Sheikh Jamal have given a letter to CCDM in this regard," Sunny said.

Sabbir however denied the incident and said that Elias was a senior cricketer and he would not do something like that. "We had just arrived and someone from behind directed racial slurs at him. Everyone calls him by that name but I didn't. He thought I did. There is no question of throwing a stone. Is it easy to throw stones? Why would I do something like that? He is my senior," Sabbir told The Daily Star.

Regarding the previous match between the two teams where an altercation had taken place, Sabbir said: "He was batting and I asked 'why aren't you playing shots, you have to score runs quick due to DL method'. That's all I said, I didn't insult him."
