Not sure I am VC of operations anymore: Mahmud

Former Bangladesh skipper Khaled Mahmud today came down heavily on Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) and about the way it operates while at one point even wondering if he is still the active vice-chairman of BCB's cricket operations committee.

Mahmud, who is one of the directors of BCB, has been involved with the board at different capacities over the years. The 49-year-old, who heads the game development committee of BCB, also acted as the team leader during Bangladesh's two-Test tour of Sri Lanka earlier in April this year.

He is also the vice-chairman of the cricket operations committee, currently led by former Bangladesh skipper Akram Khan. However, according to Mahmud, he could only be holding the title just on paper as he is not involved with the cricket operations anymore.

"I am actually not sure if I am the vice-chairman of [cricket] operations anymore," Mahmud told the media today.

"Maybe I just hold the title but I don't attend meetings and they don't even ask me to join in any meetings. For about 2 years I didn't even receive any email [from the BCB]. Now, however, I get a few [emails]. That's how I knew about the squads of the national team and which players are going to Zimbabwe [for a full series starting next month]. I used to be involved with operations previously but that's not the case anymore," added Mahmud.

Mahmud was supposed to accompany the Tigers as their team leader in their tour of Zimbabwe as well. But the former cricketer took a break from the role due to a family crisis.

Just ahead of the tour of Zimbabwe, featuring a lone Test, three ODIs and as many T20Is, BCB appointed former Sri Lanka spinner Rangana Herath and former South Africa batsman Ashwell Prince as Bangladesh's spin bowling and batting consultants respectively. However, Mahmud mentioned that he only got to know about these appointments when the news broke out in the media.

"I actually got to learn from the media that these two [Herath] and [Prince] were appointed [as spin and batting consultants respectively]. No one [from the BCB] shared it with me. Maybe they did not share it with me as I was in the bubble [during the Bangabandhu Dhaka Premier League]. But I had my phone with me inside the bubble but no one even called me to inform. I actually learned about their appointments through newspapers and media outlets," added Mahmud.

Asked what might be the reason behind BCB not involving him with the cricket operations, Mahmud said: "I actually don't know about it. I try to work with the board and help anyone when anyone needs it. I also have my own responsibility towards the board and I am very aware about it."
