A late unbeaten cameo from Mohammad Naim helped Abahani Limited secure a five-wicket victory via D/L method over Legends of Rupganj in the ongoing Bangabandhu Dhaka Premier Division T20 League at the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium in Mirpur today.

Following the win, Abahani stayed third in the points table with 16 points from eight wins in 11 games.

Courtesy of Naim's unbeaten 19-ball 39, laced with two boundaries and as many maximums, Abahani chased down Rupganj's 164-run target with two balls to spare in a game that was reduced to 18-overs-a-side due to rain.

With 10 required off the final over, Naim smashed Rupganj pacer Mohammad Shahid for a six in the third ball before taking a double in the previous delivery. He took Abahani over the line by taking a single in the fourth delivery of the final over.

Naim, however, was lucky to have survived a dropped catch on 22.

Abahani got off to a decent start in their chase of a commendable total. Opener Munim Shahriar fell after a 16-ball 22 in the fifth over while Najmul Hossain Shanto scored a fluent 19-ball 29, featuring one boundary and two maximums, before departing in the eighth over.

Abahani looked well on course for a victory with skipper Mushfiqur Rahim and young Afif Hossain in the middle. However, both Mushfiqur (20 off 18) and Afif (21 off 12) fell in the space of just three deliveries and suddenly Abahani seemed to be in a spot of bother.

Abahani lost Mosaddek Hossain soon after but an unbeaten 51-run sixth-wicket stand between Naim and Mohammad Saifuddin guided the Sky Blues to victory. Saifuddin remained unbeaten on 14 off 11 deliveries.

Earlier, electing to bat, fifty from wicketkeeper batsman Jaker Ali and a 27-ball 35 from Sabbir Rahman helped Rupganj pile up a commendable score of 162 for five in 18 overs.

Abahani's Saifuddin, who remained handy with the willow, scalped two wickets for 36 runs in his four overs. Left-arm pacer Mehedi Hasan Rana scalped the other three Rupganj wickets that fell.

Meanwhile, at BKSP 4, the game between Shinepukur Cricket Club and Partex Sporting Club had to be called off due to rain.
