Brothers refuse to play following rain

Mohammedan Sporting Club were awarded The Dhaka Premier League (DPL) match against Brothers Union after the latter refused to play following rain as they deemed that the pitch was unfit for play to continue.

The match at Savar was marred by rain after Mohammedan put on 316 for nine with openers Avishek Mitra (68) and Irfan Sukkur (92) laying the foundation for a big total with a 174-run opening stand. Following the rain, the umpires would have started procedures for Duckworth-Lewis-Stern method but Brother refused to play after taking a look at the pitch.

"When we took a look at the pitch, we saw that it not possible to play in this wicket. The pitch was wet and it was roughened up possibly due to the players' spike," Brother manager Amir Babu told The Daily Star.

As per the rules, the match was awarded to Mohammedan as they picked up their fourth win in the league.

D/L method did come into play in the other matches at Fatullah and Dhaka. Youngsters Shadman Islam's 78 and Towhid Hridoy's 83 allowed Shinepukur Cricket Club to post 245 for 8. Prime Bank were set a target of 149 from 20 overs under D/L method following rain and they managed 100 for 9 in 20 overs as  Shinepukur won by 48 runs by D/L method.

At Dhaka, Gazi Group won by 49 runs under D/L method against Uttara Sporting Club. They posted 235 for 9 batting first  before Uttara were bowled out for 138 in 31 overs.
