Frasier (1993 - 2004)

Frasier (1993 - 2004)

Frasier was produced as a spin-off of Cheers, continuing the story of psychiatrist Frasier Crane as he returned to Seattle, his hometown, to start a new life. The show stars Frasier Crane- a psychiatrist who has no luck with women, Niles Crane- another psychiatrist, Frasier's brother, who is married to a never-shown Maris for half the series before finally breaking up with her and marrying the person he has been madly in love with for the whole show, the British Daphne Moon, his father Martin's personal caretaker, and also Martin's dog Eddie. Much admired and widely syndicated, it has been one of the most successful spin-off TV series.

One interesting aspect of the series is the way the writers and actors round out the characters. The show brings realistic problems and conditions to the surface and adds a comical and witty twist to the plot. Often, Frasier and Niles pull every little problem to pieces with extreme over-analysis, but far from being boring it just highlights the fact that the two could not exist outside their perfect little worlds. The physicality and expressionism of the cast are so definitive that it makes you feel as if you were watching them in real-time. There is neither any unnecessary humour nor any erotic deviancy, which seems to be so rampant in much of today's TV. It is exciting to see Frasier and Martin near the end of the series run, as paralleled to some of the initial episodes. Perhaps, there is no such match, where the final season was every bit as funny as the first. The series finale was one of the best, actually living up to the hype. It is obvious that the cast and crew really cared deeply about the sitcom and went to great lengths to give nothing but the best. Thus, till date, there are not many shows that hold a prestigious position as Frasier, making it an all-time classic.
