THE WONDER GIRL - UP CLOSE AND PERSONAL WITH SAFA KABIR

You have become one of the most popular young actresses of this generation. How did it all start?
To be honest, I never thought that I would be acting before I even started doing it. When I auditioned for "@18- All Time Dourer Upor", I was told to scream as loud as I can. I thought that I wasn't good enough, but surprisingly got the call from the producers. After the day that the Telefilm aired, everyone started referring to me as "Bariwalar Meye". I was shocked that people recognized me even though I did only three scenes in that Telefilm! Needless to say, that was the turning point in both my life and my career.
Tell us a little about yourself. How was your life before you started acting? Do you have any hobbies?
I don't know if you will believe it or not, but I am actually an introvert. I can't initiate conversations and talk to anyone unless they approach me first. Before I started my career as an actor, I lived a very normal life revolving around my family and friends. As for hobbies, I really like to make masks. I use whatever little crafting skills I have to make abstract masks of many different shapes and sizes. I would say that I have a strange University life as whenever I enter; people tend to be intimidated and start avoiding me for some reason. I love engaging in random conversations and not talking about work for a change.
How do you view yourself as an actress, or the art of acting in general?
I could round it up in one phrase: It is difficult. Only the ones who have stood in front of camera under harsh weather for the entire day would know how hard we have to work to be identified as good actors. This only makes me appreciate all the hard work put in by our established artists which I would have otherwise taken for granted had I not known how much work it really is. I am grateful for the opportunities I had gotten and am trying to make the best out of them.
Did you know that people often make 'memes' on social media with your pictures?
(Laughs) Yes, of course. I enjoy them a lot, really. I have a folder in my computer in which I collect all the funny memes that they make out of my pictures. Obviously, I do not like the really mean ones; and trust me, they can get really mean at times.
What about your love life? If you're single, who would be your dream man?
I really need to have enough time on my hands for that! I step out of my house in the morning and often return from work late at night. As for a potential lover, looks do not matter to me at all. What interests me is a good personality and a kind heart.
Where would you like to see yourself in the future?
I want myself to be known as a good actress, and that is my primary goal.
Could you tell us about your current projects? Do you ever plan to do movies?
As Valentine's Day is coming up, I am currently loaded with work. You could see me reprising a very familiar role with an actor I am associated with, but I will keep that a surprise. I am also working on another project where I am actually playing a village girl. As for movies, I really don't want to work in mainstream media at this time. If I get an offer for a really good script, I will consider it.
