Professor Shibli Rubayat Ul Islam has been appointed by the government as the new chairman of the Bangladesh Securities and Exchange Commission (BSEC), the stock market regulator.

The finance ministry issued a gazette notification in this regard today.

Prof Shibli is the dean of the Faculty of Business Studies at University of Dhaka. He is also the incumbent chairman of Sadharan Bima Corporation.

He will replace Prof M Khairul Hossain, who completed his nine-year-long tenure as the chairman of BSEC last week.
