The Supreme Court today upheld a High Court verdict that declared illegal the suspension of Rajshahi City Corporation (RCC) Mayor Mosaddek Hossain Bulbul.

A three-member bench of the Appellate Division headed by Chief Justice Surendra Kumar Sinha dismissed an appeal filed by the government challenging the HC verdict.

There is no legal bar for Mosaddek Hossain Bulbul to get back the post of RCC mayor following the SC order, Bulbul’s lawyer Advocate Anminul Haque Helal told The Daily Star.

He said following a writ petition filed by Bulbul, the HC on March 10 last year declared the government order suspending Bulbul as the mayor illegal.

Later on, the government filed an appeal with the SC challenging the HC verdict.

The government suspended him May 7, 2015 as he was charged in court with several criminal cases.
