HC scraps conviction, jail sentence of children

The High Court today scrapped the conviction and jail sentence of children given by mobile courts run by executive magistrates across the country.
The court declared the actions of the executive-magistrate-run-mobile-courts convicting children and sentencing them on different charges, illegal and unconstitutional.
The HC directed the concerned authority of the government to immediately release children convicted and sentenced by mobile courts conducted by executive magistrates.
The HC bench of Justice Sheikh Hassan Arif and Justice Md Mahmud Hasan Talukder delivered the verdict after hearing a suo muto (voluntary action) rule issued by the court on October 31 of last year.
