Qatar to hire Bangladeshi workers in medical, hospitality fields

Qatar wants to recruit skilled and semi-skilled workers from Bangladesh in the field of medical, hospitality, and driving and IT sectors, Qatari Labour Minister Dr Ali bin Saeed bin Al Samikh Al Marri said today (August 21, 2022).

The Qatari minister said this during his meetings with Foreign Minister AK Abdul Momen and Expatriates' Welfare and Overseas Employment Minister Imran Ahmad.

During a courtesy call on Momen at the State Guest House Padma, Marri expressed his satisfaction about the Bangladesh community living in Qatar and appreciated their role in developing the economy of Qatar as well as Bangladesh.

He mentioned that in the coming days Qatar would like to recruit skilled and semi-skilled workers from Bangladesh in the field of medical, hospitality, driving and IT sector, according to a foreign ministry statement.

Foreign Minister Momen briefed him about the initiatives taken by Bangladesh government for skill development to meet growing demand in domestic and abroad.

He appreciated the cooperation of Qatar Government in supplying LNG to Bangladesh.

The foreign minister lauded the role of Qatar for its mediation in Afghanistan, Palestine, Chad and in Sudan. He requested Qatar government's political and economic support for solving Rohingya problems.

Momen highlighted trade and investment opportunities in Bangladesh and requested for Qatar's investment in Bangladesh, especially in the Special Economic Zones. Qatar's Labour Minister said that Qatar will actively explore investment scope in Bangladesh.

In a separate meeting with Expatriates Welfare Minister Imran Ahmad, Marri said Qatar has amended its labour law and from now on the foreign workers will be entitled to the equal rights that the Qatari workers enjoy.

If the employers violate labour rights, the Qatari government takes actions against the law violators.

Also, the Qatari minister said, the government has created a welfare fund for the workers and in any case the employers fail to pay wages to the workers, they will be paid from the fund.

He also stressed that the Bangladeshi workers abide by the Qatari laws.
