Expat killed in South Africa road crash

A Bangladeshi expatriate businessman was killed and his two sons were injured in a road accident in Eswatini of South Africa, in the early hours of Friday (Bangladesh time).
The deceased is Md Gias Uddin Mia, 55, a resident of Mrigi village of Faridpur Sadar upazila.
According to family members, the accident occurred around 1:30am on Thursday night (local time) when Gias Uddin was returning from a visa centre in Eswatini city. He was reportedly driving his car after submitting visa applications, as he was planning a trip to Germany with his two sons.
While returning home, his car collided with a cargo truck, killing him on the spot.
His two sons -- Siam Mia, 12, and Raihan Mia, 10 -- were injured in the incident but are said to be in a stable condition.
Gias had been living in Eswatini with his family since 2009 and running a business at a local shopping centre.
His elder brother, Daud Mia, confirmed the death on Friday afternoon.
"Two of our seven brothers have now died in South Africa," he said. "Our younger brother, Yusuf Mia, was stabbed to death by assailants in 2019. He too was a businessman," he said.
Daud said the family is working to bring Gias Uddin's body back to Bangladesh for burial.
