An activist of Islami Chhatra Shibir, the student wing of Jamaat-e-Islami, was killed in a “shootout” with police in Mirpur Beribadh area of Dhaka last night.

Deceased Emadullah was a resident of Mirpur area, Bazlar Rahman, a sub-inspector of Mirpur Police Station, told The Daily Star today.

The SI said police detained Emadullah with two petrol bombs and a bottle of petrol from Mirpur-10 around 10:00pm yesterday.

As per his statement, police along with Emadullah conducted a raid in Beribadh area under Rupnagar Police Station to recover hidden firearms.

As soon as police reached the spot, a gang of Jamaat-e-Islami and Shibir opened fire prompting the law enforcers to retaliate with bullets that triggered a “gunfight”.

Emadullah came in the line of fire and died on the spot, the SI said.

The body of Emadullah was sent to Dhaka Medical College and Hospital morgue for autopsy. But no one came to receive the body till noon.
