The government has appointed Rear Admiral ASM A Awal of Bangladesh Navy as the new High Commissioner of Bangladesh to the Republic of Maldives, says a foreign ministry announcement yesterday.
He is the eldest son of Shaheed MA Wahed, an organiser of the War of Liberation in the then Jamalpur Subdivision.
Rear Admiral Awal joined the Bangladesh Navy in 1976. During his career Rear Admiral Awal served in many important appointments in Bangladesh Navy including Assistant Chief of Naval Staff (Operations and Personnel).
He also served in Bangladesh High Commission in Sri Lanka as Defence Adviser. He has attended a number of training courses both at home and abroad. He obtained his MDS (Master in Defence Studies) degree from National University.
Bangladesh maintains friendly relations with the Maldives. Both the countries have expressed their desire to work on climate change issues and global warming that put both the countries in danger.
