National Alliance for Election Monitoring (Naem) yesterday called on the Election Commission (EC) to make public the guidelines for the selection of election observers.
It also urged political parties to sit with the government to fix the guidelines.
"Observation and monitoring is very important to ensure a free and fair election. So, we want the EC to be transparent in the selection of the election observers," Naem General Secretary Sharmeen Murshid said at a press conference.
Urging the EC to stick to its decision to hold the election on scheduled, Naem, a newly formed election observation group, said that if the election is not held as per schedule, it would undermine the EC's independent status.
The Naem also called on the political parties to not to nominate corrupt and dishonest persons for the upcoming polls.
