Man electrocuted to death on RU campus

A man was electrocuted to death after at Rajshahi University yesterday while trying to connect an electric line at a juice shop on the campus.

The deceased is Rimon Ghosh Tufan, 24, of Sipai Para neighborhood in Ward 8 under the jurisdiction of the Rajpara Police Station area in the city.

This incident took place in front of the Momtaz Uddin Arts Building.

According to witnesses, the young man, a local electrician, had come to connect electricity at a juice shop on campus that afternoon. Around 4:10pm, he climbed up an electric pole. After a while, he was seen hanging from the pole due to an electric shock.

Realising the situation, a guard from a nearby building rushed to switch off the main power. At that point, the young man fell on the ground. He was then immediately taken to the hospital, where doctors declared him dead.

University Proctor Professor Mahbubur Rahman said, "After learning about the incident, we immediately visited the scene and informed the police."

Dr Shankar, spokesperson of Rajshahi Medical College Hospital, said, "Around 6:00pm today, an electrician who had been electrocuted near Rajshahi University was brought by ambulance to our emergency department. After examination, the on-duty doctor declared him dead."

Abdul Malek, Officer-in-Charge of Motihar Police Station, said the body was kept at the morgue. An unnatural death case will be filed.
