Three members of a family were burnt in an explosion caused by a gas line leak at a house in Gazipur this morning.

They were admitted to the emergency department of the National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery in Dhaka.

The victims are garment worker Haris Mia, 50, his wife Ayesha Akhter, 40, and their son Mainul Islam, 12.

Ali Mohammad Rashed, officer-in-charge (OC) of Gacha Police Station, confirmed the incident to The Daily Star.

He said that they used to live at a rented house in the Hurricane area. They are from Sunamganj.

Quoting Lipi Akhter, a relative of the victims, OC Rashed said the explosion occurred when they lit a gas stove for cooking in the morning.

He said, "Initially, it seems that accumulated gas from a gas line leakage caused the blast."

Abdullah Al Mamun, deputy assistant director of Gazipur Fire Service Station, said that no one informed them about the matter.

He heard about the incident later, he added.
