The International Crimes Tribunal's investigators have found the involvement of 26 people so far in the killing of student Abu Sayed in Rangpur during the 2024 uprising.

They included police personnel and members of Jubo League, Chhatra League, and other groups, prosecutor Mizanul Islam told the tribunal yesterday.

Although the prosecution was scheduled to submit the probe report on the killing yesterday, it requested more time to complete the investigation, noting that evidence against 26 people had been collected.

Later, the three-member tribunal, led by its Chairman Justice Md Golam Mortuza Mozumder, granted a two-month extension and ordered the investigation agency to submit the report on June 16.

Four of the accused were produced before the court during the proceedings.

They are former assistant sub-inspector Amir Hossain, constable Sujan Chandra Roy, Begum Rokeya University proctor Shariful Islam, and Chhatra League activist Emran Chowdhury.

Sayed became an icon of resistance in the uprising almost overnight after a video of him being shot dead by police with his arms outstretched in a show of defiance on July 16 last year went viral.

On January 13, Sayed's elder brother Ramzan Ali lodged a complaint with the ICT's prosecution wing against ousted prime minister Sheikh Hasina and 23 others over the incident.

Meanwhile, the tribunal authorised its investigation agency to interrogate three former police officers regarding the killing of nine youths in Kallyanpur in 2016 in an anti-militancy drive.

The officers -- former inspector general of police AKM Shahidul Hoque, former DMP commissioner Asaduzzaman Mia, and former deputy commissioner (Mirpur division) Jasim Uddin Mollah -- are scheduled to be interrogated on April 20, 21, and 22, respectively, at the investigation agency's safe home.

On March 24, the ICT sent the three former top police officials to jail in a case filed over the incident.
