A ransomware group known as Hunters International has published data it claims to have stolen from Tata Technologies, more than a month after the Indian engineering and IT services company confirmed a cyberattack. The leak raises concerns over data security and the potential exposure of sensitive company and employee information.

The compromised data, published on Hunters International's dark web leak site, reportedly includes personal details of current and former Tata Technologies employees, along with confidential business documents such as purchase orders and contracts with clients in India and the United States. The group claims the leak comprises over 730,000 files—totaling approximately 1.4 terabytes of data—including Excel spreadsheets, PowerPoint presentations, and PDF documents.

Tata Technologies had previously disclosed a ransomware attack in late January, notifying Indian stock exchanges that a security breach had impacted "a few of" its IT assets. At the time, the company assured that client services remained "fully functional and unaffected throughout." It remains unclear whether the data leak by Hunters International is directly linked to the incident Tata Technologies acknowledged earlier this year. The company has yet to respond to multiple requests for comment.

Founded in 1989 as an automotive division of Tata Motors before becoming an independent subsidiary in 1994, Tata Technologies provides product engineering and research services to automotive, aerospace, and industrial equipment manufacturers. The company operates in 27 countries with 20 delivery centers and a workforce exceeding 12,500 employees.

Hunters International, a relatively new ransomware-as-a-service group, emerged in late 2023 and is believed to have ties to the now-disrupted Hive ransomware gang. Hive was dismantled by law enforcement agencies in 2023 after orchestrating a series of cyberattacks, including a previous breach of Tata Group subsidiary Tata Power in 2022.
