Eight military establishments renamed

Eight military institutions, agencies, and establishments previously named after ousted prime minister Sheikh Hasina, her family members, or individuals associated with her government, have been renamed.

These include three naval establishments, three air force facilities, one military institution, and one under the Ministry of Defense.

Additionally, the Ministry of Defense has submitted a summary to the Chief Adviser of the interim government proposing to rename 16 other military institutions and facilities under the Bangladesh Army.

A directive issued by the Ministry of Defense yesterday said that the Chief Adviser, who holds executive authority over the ministry, has approved the proposal and finalised new names for these institutions and facilities.

The eight renamed institutions and establishments are: BNS Khalid Bin Walid (previously BNS Bangabandhu) in Chattogram's New Mooring; BNS Dhaka (previously BNS Sheikh Mujib) in Dhaka's Khilkhet; BNS Pekua (previously (BNS Sheikh Hasina) in Pekua, Cox's Bazar; Bir Uttam AK Khandaker Air Base (previously Bangabandhu Air Base), and Bangladesh Aeronautical Centre (previously Bangabandhu Aeronautical Centre) in Dhaka's Kurmitola; BAFA Complex (previously BAFA Bangabandhu Complex) in the BAF Academy, Jashore; DSCSC Complex (previously Sheikh Hasina Complex) at the Defense Services Command and Staff College in Mirpur Cantonment, Dhaka; and Defense Museum (previously Bangabandhu Memorial Museum) at the defense ministry's Ganabhaban Complex in Sher-e-Bangla Nagar, Dhaka.
