Teachers of Rajshahi University (RU) under the banner of Progressive Teachers Society (PTS) yesterday demanded immediate removal of RU acting Vice Chancellor Prof Mamnunul Keramat and appointment of a 'neutral, highly skilled and experienced' person to the post for smooth operation of the university.
Prof Keramat was appointed pro-vice chancellor under political consideration by former BNP-Jamaat government, they said at a press conference held at Dean Complex of RU.
They also called upon the university authorities to reopen the university before October 10.
The teachers belonging to PTS also urged the caretaker government to remove all corrupt and politically appointed persons from important administrative positions in Rajshahi University.
Prof Keramat performed many policy-making tasks but it is not acceptable as he is an acting vice chancellor.The teachers demanded neutral investigation into all controversial recruitments including that of 546 third and fourth class employees at RU.
PTS convener Prof Mozaffar Hossain, Prof Anando Kumar Saha, Prof Fayekuzzaman, Prof Jalal Uddin, Prof SM Abu Bakkar, Prof Muhammad Nurullah, Prof Chowdhury Sarwar Zahan, Prof Dulal Chandra Roy, Prof Sujit Sarker, Prof Sayed Ali Haider, Tarek Noor and Hasibul Alam were present during the conference.
When contacted, RU Vice Chancellor Prof Mamnunul Keramat said, "I do not know about the demand. I will not say anything without seeing the statement."
