BTRC asks for suspension of 3G, 4G services at Nayapaltan

Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (BTRC) has directed mobile network operators to shut down 3G and 4G internet services in Dhaka's Nayapaltan, where BNP is holding a rally.

The BTRC asked the for the services to be suspended from this noon, a number of sources, seeking anonymity, told The Daily Star.

BNP leaders and activists said there was no mobile network and internet connection in the rally area since this afternoon.

Thousands of BNP leaders and activists gathered in front of the party office at Nayapaltan.

A BNP worker, who came to the rally from Nabinagar Baipail area, said, "I came to Nayapaltan around 12:00 noon. I have not been able to get mobile network and internet connection since I came here. I can't communicate with anyone."

Journalists, who also rushed there to cover the event, had the same complaint.

Mobile network and internet connection is however reportedly available at the south gate of Baitul Mukarram National Mosque in the capital, where the ruling Awami League is holding a rally, our correspondent reports from the spot.

However, the internet speed is a bit slow.
