A Burmese python was rescued from Chittagong University (CU) campus and a fishing cat was rescued from Hathazari upazila in Chattogram today.

On CU campus, the five-feet long Burmese python was rescued from Kolarjhupri area around 1:30pm, Rafiqul Islam, a trainee researcher at the Venom Research Centre of Chattogram Medical College, told our CU correspondent.

The python was later released deep into a forest near the university's Biology faculty area, he added.

In Hathazari upazila, locals first found the fishing cat and informed the local forest department officials. Forest officials then rushed to the spot and rescued the fishing cat, said Fazlul Kader Chowdhury, ranger of Hathazari Forest Range.

The fishing cat was later released in a forest area the upazila, the official added.

The python and fishing cat might have come to the locality in search of food, Professor Mohammad Abdul Wahed Chowdhury of CU's Zoology department told The Daily Star.
