7 charged with looting 20kg gold from Benapole Customs House

Criminal Investigation Department (CID) submitted charge sheet against seven people, including five suspended assistant revenue officers, in a case filed over looting 20 kg gold from Benapole Customs House in 2019.
Sirajul Islam, an inspector of CID and also the investigation officer of the case, submitted the charge sheet yesterday, reports our Benapole correspondent.
They are: assistant revenue officers and vault in-charges Biswanath Kundu of Khulna, Shahidul Islam Mridha and Arshad Hossain of Barishal, and Mohammad Oliullah of Brahmanbaria; assistant revenue officer Shahibul Sarkar of Rajbari; and two NGO workers Azibar Rahman Mollik of Khulna and Shakil Sheikh of Benapole.
They all were suspended after the incident.
According to the case statement, a total of 19.3 kg gold, worth Tk 10.43 crore, were looted after breaking the vault of Benapole Customs House on November 7, 2019.
The key was with vault in-charge Shahibul. The close circuit cameras of the customs house were found turned off during the incident.
Later, revenue officer Emdadul Haque filed the case with Benapole Land Port Police Station.
Later, CID arrested the seven for their involvement with the case.
