Nipun Roy Chowdhury, a member of the BNP Central Executive Committee, was arrested on charge of conspiracy to carry out sabotage by torching buses during Hefajat-e-Islam's shutdown.

A team of Rab first arrested Nipun's associate Arman from Keraniganj area. Later, based on his information, Rab members arrested Nipun from Rayerbazar area in the afternoon, said Lt Col Ashique Billah, Rab's Legal and Media wing director.

Nipun, also member secretary of the Women and Child Rights Forum, has carried out conspiracy to carry out subversive activities by setting buses on fire, he said.

Emran Saleh Prince, the party's organising secretary in charge of the party's central office, said the family of Nipun Roy informed that she was picked up from her Rayerbazar home around 3:30pm.

Daughter of BNP Vice-Chairman Nitai Roy Chowdhury, Nipun is the daughter-in-law of BNP standing committee member Gayeshwar Chandra Roy.
