BNP lawmaker Harunur Rashid today told parliament that pillaging is going on in the name of development in the country and money is being laundered. Along with that, the local government system has been destroyed, he added.

Participating in the discussion of the thanksgiving motion on the President's speech, Harun further said that a corruption-free administration and corruption-free people's representatives cannot be created by forming a government through corrupt elections.

"When we speak in Parliament, those who you (government) have put in the opposition give counter reply. Opposition party and the government party have become united. Is there any opposition candidate in any of the local government elections? In Chittagong City Corporation and other places, the allies of the grand alliance are holding election together. How you will make the Parliament effective?" Harun added.

Harun said the former and current mayors of Dhaka City Corporation have been bringing charges of corruption against each other but the Anti-Corruption Commission is not filing cases against any of them.

Complaining that he was not allowed to speak in Parliament, the BNP MP said that he has been trying to talk about contemporary issues for the last ten days but he was not given a chance to speak in parliament on any issue.

Responding to Harun's remarks, Speaker Shirin Sharmin Choudhury said she asked Harun to wait till the end of the day's important proceedings.

"But you didn't take the opportunity as you did not want to be present in Parliament till the end of the day's scheduled proceedings," added the Speaker.
