6 members of kidnapping gang arrested from Dhaka’s Dakshinkhan area: DB

Detectives claimed to have arrested six members of a kidnapping gang from Dhaka's Dakshinkhan area yesterday.
They are: Sadekul Islam, Mohammad Irfan, Mohammad Ali Rifat, Kutub Uddin, Masum Rana and Golam Rabbi.
Detectives came to know about the gang while investigating a case filed following abduction of one Anwarul Islam from Dhaka's Uttara area on November 29 last year, the officials said.
"This gang abducted at least four persons in last couple of months," AKM Hafiz Akhter, additional commissioner (detectives) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police, told a press briefing at DMP media centre today.
The DB official said four to five member of the gang took Anwarul in their microbus when he was waiting for a vehicle near House Building area on that day.
They took him to a place unfamiliar to him and extorted Tk 3.34 lakh from the victim's family members through mobile financial service for his safe return, the DB official said adding the abductor released him in Uttara later.
The arrestees were accused in several cases with Uttara East, Uttara West and Airport Police Stations.
