Govt appoints M Shahidul Islam as Ambassador to USA

Bangladesh government has decided to appoint M Shahidul Islam, currently serving as the Secretary General of BIMSTEC, as the next Ambassador of Bangladesh to the United States of America.
Islam is a career foreign service officer belonging to 1985 batch of Bangladesh Civil Service (BCS) Foreign Affairs cadre, according to a press release issues by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
In his distinguished diplomatic career, he served in Bangladesh Missions in Kolkata, Geneva and Washington DC.
Prior to his current assignment, he served as Ambassador of Bangladesh to South Korea and France. At the headquarters, he worked in various capacities including Director General (Americas) and Director General (Europe).
M Shahidul Islam obtained his Masters in International Relations from Dhaka University.
He is married and blessed with two children.
