An elderly man, who remained missing from Jamalpur municipality since Friday, was found dead in Melandah upazila of the district on Saturday.

Deceased, Samad Miah, 60, a resident of Haat Chandra village under the municipality, was son of late Taj Mahmud Sheikh.

Quoting the deceased's family members, Officer in Charge of Melandah Police Station Rezaul Karim said Samad went out of his house on Friday morning and did not return home.

Family members looked for him in every possible places but failed to know his whereabouts, he said.

Local people spotted his body floating in a pond at Purbo Adra village in Melandah upazila around 9:00am the following morning and informed the police.

On information, police went to the spot, recovered the body and sent it to Jamalpur General Hospital for autopsy, he said. 

OC Rezaul said the motive behind the death will be clear after the autopsy is completed.
