6 Naga insurgents killed in ‘gunfight’ with Indian military

At least six Naga insurgents were killed in a gunfight with Indian forces in Khonsa area of the north eastern state of Arunachal Pradesh early today.
All the insurgents killed in the operation belonged to militant outfit National Socialist Council of Nagaland (Issac-Muivah faction), reports our New Delhi correspondent, quoting military sources.
One soldier of Assam Rifles was also reportedly injured in the operation.
The encounter took place in Tirap district, close to Assam, around 4:30am local time.
Six weapons along with a cache of ammunition were recovered from the site.
The anti-insurgency operation was launched based on specific intelligence inputs regarding the presence of the armed insurgents, according to sources.
The NSCN (IM), set up in the late 70s, had in the past been engaged in peace talks with the Indian government.
