Bangabandhu’s March 7 speech now in sign language
In order to make the hearing-impaired experience the powerful words and inspiration of the March 7 speech of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, Grameenphone has released a sign language version of it.
This is a unique attempt to celebrate the 100th birth anniversary of the Father of the Nation, the leading telecom operator said in a press statement.
"While working on our initiative to empower the profoundly deaf community, we found that they are unable to hear the powerful words, and miss out on the tremendous inspiration it provides to all of us. Driven by our sense of responsibility, we have made a sign language enabled version of the speech for them. By doing this, we are inspiring this community and playing our part in preserving the immense legacy of the father of our nation," it said.
Distinguished media personalities -- Syed Hasan Imam, Aupee Karim, Tahsan Khan, Arafat Sultana Lata, Biddya Sinha Mim, Masuma Rahman Nabila, Manoj Pramanik, Afran Nisho and Gousul Alam Shaon -- have acted out the speech in the video.
Bangabandhu delivered the speech in front of a sea of people at the Suhrawardy Udyan (formerly known as Ramna Race Course ground) in Dhaka on March 7, 1971. Unesco added the speech in the Memory of the World Register as a documentary heritage in 2017.
