Disabled child raped in Sunamganj

An eight-year-old physically challenged girl has allegedly been raped by her neighbour in Sunamganj’s Dharampasha upazila.
The victim’s father filed a case against Rum Badsha Rumali, 18, with Dharampasha Police Station on Monday night, said Sujan Sarkar, assistant superintendent of police (Dharampasha circle).
According to the case statement, the incident happened around 9:30pm on Sunday.
The girl, along with her father, went to a local market on Sunday afternoon. Around 9:00pm on the day, the father requested Badsha, one of their neighbours, to drop the girl at her home as he would be late. On the way back, Badsha took the girl to an abandoned place and raped her, the statement read.
Out of fear, the girl did not even share the incident with anyone. Later in the night, she fell sick. Next morning, the victim’s mother took her to Dharampasha Upazila Health Complex. Later, she was sent to Netrokona Sadar Hospital, the statement added.
Police could not arrest the accused as of 9:00pm yesterday, ASP Sujan said.
MAN ARRESTED OVER RAPE
Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI) yesterday arrested a man for allegedly raping a six-year-old girl in Jashore.
The accused -- Shib Roy, 19, of the district’s Chowgachha upazila -- went into hiding at his father-in-law’s place after he was made accused in a rape case, said police.
On information, a PBI team arrested him in Kushtia’s Kumarkhali upazila, said Shafiqul Islam, sub-inspector of PBI in Jashore.
The victim’s mother filed a case against Shib on Monday, the police official added.
According to the case statement, the girl was playing at her yard on Sunday when Shib lured her with food and took her to a nearby abandoned place.
Shib then raped the girl and fled the scene, leaving her on the spot. Returning home, the girl fell sick. She was then rushed to Chowgachha Upazila Health Complex. Later doctors shifted her to Jashore General Hospital for better treatment, the case statement added.
