A local Jubo League leader was arrested yesterday from his house in Rangabali upazila for assaulting a forest guard.   

The arrestee is Md Reaz Hawlader, 40, joint secretary of Rangabali upazila unit of Jubo League.

Abul Hossain is a forest guard at Gongipara Forest Camp in Rangabali upazila, police said.

Reaz beat Abul with a stick on May 19 as Abul stopped people from taking their cattle to graze in the newly planted forest land. Reaz left the place after threatening Abul that he would kill him.

Abul filed a case with Rangabali Police Station yesterday and police arrested Reaz from his house in the town, said Milon Krisna Mitra, officer-in-charge of the police station.

It may be mentioned that Reaz assaulted Abu Zafar Saleh, Tahshilder of Rangabali union, on March 19 this year as Saleh refused to lease khas land to him. Reaz also ransacked some furniture of the office.

Saleh filed a case under the Speedy Tribunal Act with the same police station on March 21 and the case is under investigation.
